Can't connect

I am trying to connect to my computer running vnc using the same loggin I do from my laptop. Is that correct? I am using the name:port of the computer.

I keep getting "error connecting to server"

Usually the VNC hostname is expressed in the form
hostname:VNC_desktop_number

example

computer1:1 (this connects to computer1, VNC desktop 1, which is served at TCP port 5901)

Remoter works this way as well. If you need to specify the TCP port number, you need to prepend it by a dash ('-'), like:

computer2:-9999 (will connect to computer2, TCP port 9999).

hi,
I usually connect from windows remote desktop typing 11.111.11.111:1111
I do not put my user name or password
I am asked about my user name and password when I establish the connection.
My user name shows later as MAIN\ but I always input my password after connection.
My question is that I tried for two hours defferrent ways, with or without the four numbers at the end, with or without password, and nothing is working
The closer thing I got to a near connection was "read (54:connection reset by peer)
Would you please let me know what I am I doing wrong?

Sounds to me like you haven't installed the VNC server on your machine.
For Windows:

The UltraVNC download page: http://uvnc.com/download/index.html

The TightVNC download page: http://www.tightvnc.com/download-old.php

(Mac comes with a VNC server pre-installed, so I don't believe this is your case).
