Problem using ssh.key...

Postby DrRoot » Sun Apr 03, 2011 1:48 pm

Hi,

I imported my private key as ssh.key via iTunes. However, connecting to my server I get:

Unable to use key file "/var/mobile/Applications/........../ssh.key (OpenSSH SSH-2 private key)
Using user name "rdm".

Followed by a Disconnected dialog saying:
Disconnected: No supported authentication methods available.

I use the same ~/.ssh/id_dsa to connect from OSX to this linux server, which works fine.

Is this a known issue? Why can you not use the key file?

Cheers, Fons.

Remoter uses Putty's ssh key format; it will attempt to automatically import the key if another format is used.. If for some reason, it can't import it, you will see that error.
You should be able to import the key manually using puttygen (available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS).

Raf.

PS: puttygen usage:
puttygen private_key_file -O private -o ssh.key

Hello,

I have the same problem. I did convert the openSSH private key to the putty format with the windows version of puttygen, then transferred the key to my iPhone & iPad. Now, I get a black screen telling me that the right login is used, but the popup window indicating the the tunnel is being created stays forever.

Can you try creating a new ppk using puttygen, instead of converting an openssh key? The feature is intended for users to create a private key specifially for Remoter, as oposed to users reusing private keys. The feature was tested with keys generated from puttygen and ssh-keygen (no arguments which generates an RSA key, or specify via 'ssh-keygen -t rsa'). It should work correctly under these scenarios.

I've been testing this. And Openssh private keys work fine, either RSA or DSA. Just make sure when you make your key not to set a passphrase. That's not supported.

Raf.

Edit: I just finished adding passphrase support. It will be in the next release.

Thanks for your support, I will wait for the upgrade then and stick to the VPN for now.

Any date you can share for the next release ?

Hi,

Great looking app, but I only purchased it for the SSH add-in for tunneling.
You mention in another thread that the app will support full rsa keys in 2.1 release. That was over 6months ago. I was wondering if you knew with any more certainty when that release is conning out? It's a deal breaker for me.
Also, I found it difficult to locate any information on the features of the SSH addon. It's like, I had to purchase Remoter first ;)

Hi Iaikr,

Remoter 2.02 supports RSA and DSA keys. The only thing that is not supported is passphrases. Just create your ssh key without a passphrase and you should be fine. Pass phrase support was added (internally) earlier this month, and will be included in the next release which I hope to be able to release really soon (within the next couple of weeks).
Not sure where you read that I said that 6 months ago, Remoter didn't have SSH support until a little over a month ago, and support for RSA/DSA keys was added this month :)

Thanks for pointing out the lack of info regarding the add-ons. Where do you think would be the best place for me to share this info?

Thanks!,

Raf.

Feature available in 2.02? sounds great, thanks for the super quick feedback!
Cannot relocate that information, I imagine I must have made it up ha!

I would imagine the best place for the info on the applications addin, would be on the main apps purchase page on iTunes.

look forward to the update!!
