Color depth

Is there a way to specify what color depth to use? For what I do 64 colors is sufficient and speeds it up greatly

Yes, there is. You need to tap on Advanced in the session editor. The field you want is labelled "Color Depth". Make sure the VNC server you're using supports the color depth you select here. Options are 8bpp, 16bpp (default) and 32bpp.
