Disconnects when iPad is momentarily put on standby

Postby Warren » Fri Nov 18, 2011 9:29 am

Hi.

Vnc remoter seems to disconnect when the iPad is put into standby. Now I'm pretty sure that this didn't happen prior to iOS 5. I'm not sure if I have also done something in Remoter settings, although I can't see anything apart from Reconnect when disconnection is lost, which just reconnects automatically.

I'm sure it never used to lose connection.

I'm using the latest Remoter VNC. iPAD is running iOS 5.0.1. My mac mini is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Cheers.

iOS5 might be more strict to preserve battery life.
Some things you can try:
-tunnel your connection through an ssh tunnel (requires ssh-add on). When using SSH, Remoter requests the OS to keep the connection alive as long as possible (usually the OS will keep it for about 10 minutes)
-use RemoterFusion (requires add-on as well). In this case, because RemoterFusion also forwards the sound, the app stays active for as long as you want. The down side is that your battery can drain really fast if you're not careful.

Hope this helps,
Raf.
