Cannot connect away from home

Postby Andrew » Sat Sep 24, 2011 11:49 am

Hi Raf and everyone in here.

I think this is an awesome app btw. I set it up at home and it worked straight away. However... when I went away, I wanted to show it to some friends... to spread the good word as it were... It wouldn't work. Hmmmm...

I have it on my iPad 2 version 4.3.5 and iPhone 3 GS also 4.3.5. Both worked at home on wifi. Neither worked away from home on Wifi or 3G network... Any chance of a step by step guide for dummies like me of setting up a session that will allow me access to my iMac whilst I'm away from home? This is the real reason I purchased Remoter VNC. I tried entering my IP address for the link "whatsmyipaddress" and that didn't seem to work. I'm obviously doing something wrong.

Once I have it working (I hope) will I need to configure it from every wifi network? Are sessions a list for each location or each computer?

I've looked on the forums / youtube videos and tried to understand, but I couldn't find a relevant thread.. Anyone?? help!!

Also does it work on 3G at all. It seems some people have got it working, but my setup on my iMac.local doesn't work away from home.

Any step by step guides / links... anything!!!

Many thanks

Mr Thick.

Hi Andrew,

The easiest way for you to do this is to use RemoterFusion (http://remoterfusion.rafsoftware.com). You can try it for free for 24hours, and if it works for you, then you can purchase the in-app-purchase (you can check the price from within Remoter's Store).

Otherwise, the steps are as follow:
-Open port 5900 on your router, and redirect it to your iMac's address (via your Router's port forwarding)
-Either use the ip from "whatsmyip" or use something like dyndns.org
More details here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5 (the WAN guide)

But really, if RemoterFusion works in your case, I would highly recommend it, as it really simplifies all of that. Give it a try for free, and if you need more than 24hrs to try it, just let me know.

Raf.
