Can't connect with Lion Server if screen in stop

Postby aleph72 » Mon Aug 15, 2011 9:46 am

Hi guys.

I've got a very bad problem here.
It took me a long time to understand what was going on, but now it's clear: I can't connect to my Lion Server machine if it's locked with screen in STOP (it's a Macbook).

No problem if the screen is not in stop mode, even if I haven't already log in.

I'm almost sure this is another weird problem that came with Lion, but do anyone here knows a workaround?

Thank you.

Hi aleph72,

I'm sure you already checked this thread, but just in case:

What do you mean when you say the screen is "in stop" mode?

By "stop" mode I mean when the Mac screen is turned off, not just a black screen, it's totally turned off (only the screen) and the system light is turned on.
I have my Mac set to turn the screen saver on in 5 minutes, and then, after 15 minutes, it shuts the screen off.
While the screen saver is on, I can connect without any problem, everything works just fine.
When the screen is turned off, the connection times out.

Ok, I understand now that the correct term is "sleep".
My system language is Italian and they translated "put the display to sleep..." with "put the display in stop".... sorry.
I hope I made myself clear now.

Hi aleph72,
Make sure you select "Wake for network access" in the Energy Saver panel:

Hi Raf,
that option is already selected and it doesn't work.
Any other idea?

You might want to try setting up WoL then. You will need to enter your Mac's MAC address (unless you used bonjour, then it's already there) into Remoter's session. Then you should be able to wake the machine up by using the "Wake" button on the main screen.

Tried that too. No go.
I've set up two connections, one from inside my LAN, and the other from outside.
Port 9 UDP is redirected to my server's IP on the router (can't use x.x.x.255).

I'm starting to think I may have some problems with my Lion Server installation...

I too am having the same problem, Remoter VNC from my ipod touch to my imac running lion works great only if the imac display is already on, but if the display is asleep, it won't connect. So this seems to be a problem with lion. Looks like I need to wear out my LCD and always leave it on if I want to access my machine remotely until Apple gets their act together and fixes remote access.

Apple released 10.7.1 yesterday (or the day before). I'm out on vacation right now, I wonder if they fixed any of the remote management issues 10.7 has.

It's seems they didn't.
I have installed 10.7.1 yesterday and I have the same problems.
I wonder if a PRAM reset could do any good...
