VNC from Mac to Linux box

Postby patriot » Sun Feb 05, 2012 8:57 pm

HI,
I have remoter v.1.0.2 from the app store installed on a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7.2. I have set up (LAN to LAN) a VNC connection to a linux box. I am trying to use a web based application on the server, but something keeps breaking. When I have used the sever application a couple of minutes, it kind of freezes - will open new Firefox windows, but the application is hung. I get the message "waiting for localhost", and sometimes when this happens, I also loose the ability to transmit keystrokes.
I would like to get this working so I can then set up a VNC over SSH connection.
Your help appreciated.
KC

Hi patriot,
I'm not aware of this issue. What VNC server are you running on your box? Any other info that you think is pertinent is appreciated.

Thanks,
Raf.

I am running XtightVNC on Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu 10.04) on a Dell desktop PC.
The problem is intermittent.

OK. I'll try to install Linux Mint in a virtual machine to recreate. Which version of mint is this?
How did you install, configure XtightVNC?
How long does it usually take for you to start experiencing the problem?

Thank you!,
Raf.

Linux mint ver is 9.
The time is variable, but usually happens shortly after starting ZoneMinder remotely on the server.

Does it only happen if you start ZoneMinder?

As far as I can tell, only starts when I open firefox.
Installed Xtightvnc through synaptic package manager. Only configuration was creating my password.

Have you tried connecting to this machine via other VNC clients?
I'm just trying to figure out if the issue is in Remoter or in the server-side.
Also, I'm trying to download Mint Linux 9, but the site only has version 12. Do you know where I can get version 9 from?

Thanks,
Raf.

Download linux mint 9 here:
http://www.linuxmint.com/release.php?id=13
I am running 32 bit version, kernel 2.6.32-21 generic for i686
The only other thing I have vnc'd on is the remoter vnc iOS version on iphone - so far no keyboard problems, but when I vnc from iphone, it is generally a very short session.
