Some questions on remoter

Postby sbrews » Wed Jan 04, 2012 2:00 pm

I did some looking and searching and didnt find anything on my questions - if I missed an already posted topic point me to it.

1.) While playing around with remoter (vnc over ssh), I got disconnected (think the ipad went to sleep). No big deal I'll just reconnect. On the reconnect, I got the initial screen where you would click the username you want to use, clicked the appropriate name and... nothing. No matter what I tried I could not get the password box to appear. The imac was not in sleep or low power mode (I was right in front of it). Is there some config setting I need to tweek to fix this?

2.) I have only 1 monitor, but several screens set up. Is there a way to switch screens via remoter? If I have remoter connected and switch screens on the mac itself, remoter updates with it - but no luck so far in doing it all from remoter.

Hi sbrews,

For 1), do you have your session set up to request username and password?

For 2), you can set up your Mac to use keyboard shortcuts to switch spaces. You can then use these shortcuts in Remoter.

Thanks,
Raf.

For 1 - not sure exactly what you are asking...
- I have remoter set up so that username and password are part of the profile - so it doesnt ask me when I connect. Where I got "stuck" is at the initial screen you get if the mac were in "sleep" or low power mode. I was not able to get it to give me the pw box.

for 2 - will look into the keyboard shortcuts.

Sounds like a problem in Lion, then. I'll attempt to recreate this. Make sure you're running 10.7.2, btw. And that you're using both your Mac username and password in Remoter's VNC username and password fields.

What happens when you get into this state and you disconnect and reconnect? Does it work at this point?

I just had it "lock up" on me after entering just 3 characters of my password. I then disconnected and started over. Upon reconnection, I got 3 characters in and it again stopped responding. If I connect via pc based vnc, it works just fine.

Ps 3rd attempt - after complete restart or remoter was successful. Not sure at this point if it's a low power mode lion issue or if remoter is having some kind of issue that a restart fixes.

I know Lion has lots of issues with the login screen and VNC. Interesting that restarting Remoter (completely) seems to have helped. I'll attempt to recreate!
