Remoter with Ipad/Iphone over VPN to Remote

I need to be able to make a secure connection with Remoter/VNC from my Ipad to a desktop (PC) but I need it to be secure.

I've got the ability to setup PPPTP user/password on the remote system's router (Cisco RV042), but how do I get remoter to open the VPN tunnel. If it was purely a "windows system" (instead of Ipad/Iphone) I could use window's VPN client to establish the secure connection.

Any ideas how to do this with your product?

Thanks!

OS: Happy to buy whatever I need. Free is always nice, but I don't mind paying for what I need.

You can use VNC over SSH. This will require you to set up an SSH server on your windows box.

Also, if you establish the VPN connection on your iPad directly (Settings - General - Network - VPN), then Remoter doesn't need to know about it, and should connect transparently.

Hope this helps,
Raf.

I can mostly confirm this. I have a Lion Server, configured to host VPN. On a recent business trip I was able to open a VPN connection, and use remoter to log into my Linux, Mac, and even Windows boxes.

I say "mostly" because there was one gotcha that is not remoter's fault. My VPN connection does not route bonjour, so my connections configured with bonjour hostnames didn't work because they couldn't resolve. I was able to figure out IP addresses and set up new connections that worked. (and worked really well too, considering the hotel's horrible net speed.) If you have a proper DNS available, or maybe just a different VPN server then yes, it should be an even more transparent experience.
