Disconnect: Unable to Connect to Server

Postby Daysi » Sun Jun 26, 2011 12:37 pm

I followed a guide but something is messy.
When I try to connect to my host computer via my Ipad 2 @ LAN wifi this error pops up:

Error:

Code: Select all
"Disconnected
Host: '192.168.0.12' Port 5900
Unable to Connect to Server.
This usually indicates the computer is not reachable in the current
network. Like when trying to access a private server directly while
in 3G. Or the server is simply unreachable because it's offline,
or it's IP adress has changed."

My Remote settings is the following:

Basic Settings
Server Type: VNC
VNS Basic Settings
Name: WOPR
VNC Hostname 192.168.0.12
VNC Port: 5900
VNC Username:
VNC Password: cupcakes

- My host computer name is "WOPR" (checked up in run+dxdiag) and it's signed IPv4 adress is "192.168.0.12" (checked up in cmd+ipconfig)
- If I hover the UltraVNC in the toolbar on my host computer, following shows up: "WinVNC - 192.168.0.12, 192.168.56.1 - WOPR - service"
- Windows firewall allows everything that has to do with UltraVNC and I am using the free version of Avast.
- Pic of UltraVNC Admin Properies: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/4/namelessq.png/

What is wrong? :P

Hi Daysi,
Both your UltraVNC and Remoter configurations look OK. Could you try this?
From another computer in your network, open a command window (Window Button - Run - cmd), then type:
telnet 192.168.0.12 5900

Let me know what you get. This test will help determine what the problem is.

I have another laptop in my network, but the telnet command didn't work. Seems like it was not installed, when I tried to activate it, the laptop just froze.

And I am getting a new error msg at the Ipad now,

Code: Select all
Disconnected
VNC connection failed:
authentication rejected

Well, this new error indicates that you have connectivity, but the username/password pair is incorrect.
From your earlier screenshot I see that you're not using MS Logon. This means you need to set up a password in UltraVNC for VNC, and use that password in Remoter.
If you want to use MS Logon, you need to enable that in UltraVNC, and then you can use your Windows username/password pair in Remoter. (See the video guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tK99rXrvDPI for help setting up UltraVNC MS Logon)

Daysi:

I had the same problem with remoter.
I found out that Port 5900 has to be a "public router", but I can't figure out what is a good value to use instead of "5900".
Did you ever get a reply from RAF?

Hi remoter1143,

What is your problem exactly? What do you mean by public router? You do have to set the port-forwarding on the router that has access to the public internet, if that's what you mean. So that port 5900 can be forwarded from the public internet into your machine inside your LAN.
Why do you need to use a port other than 5900?

Vista has some network connection designations like public vs private although I have no clue what / where or why if possible there would be a "public router" message -- don't recall ever seeing one I could quote but perhaps within the help texts.
