[Solved - 1.7] No Capital Letters

Remoter 1.6 doesn't seem to be able to send any sort of capitalized letters to my mini. I have forced it to OSX mode. None of the special characters like $&@?! work either, I get their number or lower case equivalent instead. Other VNC clients work on the same machine.

This is interesting. It certainly doesn't happen to me or any of the beta testers (AFAIK). Could you give me some more info?:
-Does this happen with an app in particular running on your mini?
-What version of OS X are you running / Screen Sharing or Vine server
-Did this happen with Remoter v1.52
-Is this on the iPhone or iPad version of Remoter?
-What language is selected on the iPad / on the Mac?
-Are you using the integrated keyboard or a physical keyboard?

Thanks!,

Raf.

All apps. Running 10.6.5, happened on 10.6.4 as well and with Remoter 1.52. Happens with both Vine Server and screen sharing. iPad version. English on both. Integrated keyboard.

OK. So we have two clues:
1- your mini is recognized as a PC on Remoter v1.52 and on 1.6 if set to auto detect. (right.)
2- the server interprets uppercase & special chars as lowecase/base char combinations.

I would tend to think the problem is with ScreenSharing on your machine, but you said the same thing happens when you use Vine server.

Could you try opening up a terminal console and typing:" telnet localhost 5900 ". And post the output from that command? It's interesting I cannot recreate the problem. What f/w version are you running on your iPad? Would you be willing to try a special debug version of Remoter so we can debug this further?

Thanks,

Raf

1. correct
2. correct

firmware version is 3.1.3

here is the output from the telnet command

Trying ::1...
telnet: connect to address ::1: Connection refused
Trying fe80::1...
telnet: connect to address fe80::1: Connection refused
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
RFB 003.008

i would be willing to test a special version of remoter. i could alternatively wait until 4.2 comes out if you want to as its not super critical, yet.

not sure if its a screen sharing or vine server issue as it doesn't happen with other vnc clients, only remoter.

Thanks for that info. I was able to recreate the problem!
Based on that output, you're running the Vine server, not Screen Sharing. I just tried it here locally, and when running the Vine server, I can recreate all the problems you're experiencing: -capital letters not working and -server not detected as a mac.
If you use Screen Sharing instead, both these problems should go away. I'm going to have to update the documentation, and not recommend the vine server anymore (until this is resolved at least). Any reason you don't use Screen Sharing? It's included with Leopard/Snow Leopard.

Thanks for your help!,

Raf.

Nope. Still broken. As I said, other VNC clients are working so the issue must be with Remoter.

Yes, you are correct. The problem is not the server-per-se. What I'm saying is that Remoter is currently incompatible with the Vine server. But it does work correctly with Screen Sharing.
Please try stopping the Vine server, enabling Screen Sharing, and run Remoter. It should work correctly. If you're still having problems when talking to ScreenSharing, please post the output of "telnet localhost 5900" (the previous output shows Vine server running).

Thanks,

Raf.

vine server is not running. screen sharing is turned on.

output from telnet

Trying ::1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.

still no capitals

This line was typed from another VNC client. Caps working.

Some more info, just in case: I have a bluetooth keyboard for the mini and both the mini and the iPad are using the same wireless network.

Thanks for the feedback. This is strange. Please send me a direct message with your iPad's UDID; I'd like to add you as a beta tester if you don't mind (even if it is temporararily). I'd like to get to the bottom of this issue.
Thanks for helping me figure out what's going on!
