Remoter VNC 3.0 has been approved and is out!

Postby raf » Wed Aug 24, 2011 11:40 am

Remoter VNC 3.0 was submitted to Apple last night. It will hopefully be out soon!
[Edit 08/25/11 @ 7:40PM EST: It has now been approved and will be out tomorrow friday!]
[Edit 08/26/11 @ 1:20AM EST: It is now out!]

Major changes:

-In-App purchases:
--RDP: Windows Remote Desktop in-app purchase, RDP over SSH is also possible. Sound redirection is supported as well.
--RemoterFusion: Requires RemoterComplete or RemoterFusion add-on. It can be tried for free for 24 hours. If your router supports UPnP or NAT-PMP, it simplifies connecting from outside of your network: no need to set up port forwarding, or use dyndns anymore! (Mac only at the moment - working on a Windows version of the helper app)

Other Great Enhancements!:
-Keyboard transparency level is configurable now (sp keys toolbar transparency now matches keyboard)
-SSH Answerback string can now be user configured
-Automatic-reconnection added, can be enabled/disabled by the user
-Remoter now handles URLs! Supported for VNC, RDP, SSH, Telnet
-Last connection is now remembered
-Tap-And-Hold for a couple of seconds to bring up a menu with options such as right-click, double-click
-Special keys toolbar buttons have been resized to take better advantage of the available space
-Session state is now remembered: fullscreen, trackpad, keyboard, zoom level and offset
-Swiss-German keyboard mapping - thanks to Constantin Kahn
-SSH/Telnet font can now be user configured (available on a per-session basis!)
-SSH/Telnet text rendering updated to make it much more precise; this is specially important for text based applications that draw text in specific locations
-Session Editor / Remoter Config completely re-written so that help for each element is always displayed, many options now displayed using better more intuitive controls as well
-Added a new Kiosk mode option to Remoter Config: This forces sessions to run in a more controlled, and always full screen mode (sponsored by Sean Stevens)
-Machine discovery on startup is now user configurable in Remoter Config
-Trackpad edge scroll speed: default is now lower for iPhone/iPod
-Added support for iOS 5, using GCD on iOS 4+
-Added support for local framebuffer (client-side) scaling (useful for when connecting to high resolution displays)
-Fullscreen menu doesn't display 'keyboard', 'trackpad' when fullscreen single button is not selected
-Advanced: 'define rectangle' option: tap on the two opposite corners of a selected window, to change framebuffer to only display that area
-Updated popover menus in iPad to take better advantage of the space
-Right clicking now displays red feedback animation
-New trackpad button system. Now it's possible to drag by holding the trackpad left button with one finger, and dragging on the trackpad with the other; just like it's possible on a real trackpad. Double clicking and right-clicking are also more true, as well as feedback animations.
-SSH/Telnet now display their port in the session list

Bug Fixes:
-Fixed right-clicking on Snow Leopard w/RDP update 3.5.1
-Fixed problem with 'Fit Width' / 'Fit Height' not working correctly under certain conditions
-Fixed bug with Restore Purchases button getting stuck in a loop if the user canceled afterwards
-Better detection for disconnected VNC sessions
-Added UI fading to correct unwanted element movements on app startup
-Don't move start/wake buttons when user swipes to delete in session list
-Fix to macros menus with lots of entries
-Animation fixes, title centering issues fixed
-Many more minor issues

Thanks for your continued support!!

-Raf.

There are some issues with VNC over SSH in Remoter 3.0. I'll be releasing a hot-fix SHORTLY (read 1-2 days) to correct these. Don't update if you use VNC over SSH!
Please report any other issues ASAP so I can try to include them in 3.0.1 as well. Thank you, and sorry for the inconvenience!

Just updated to 3.0 and it broke the app. Doesn't work on my iPhone. Although the new Fusion add on is disabled, it kept asking to reconnect Fusion. Suggestions?

One thing I have not been able to discover: does the new RDP feature support multiple monitors (either as one big screen, or switching between them using the menu option)? I have another RDP app already but it lacks this feature. I'd be interested in buying the RDP addon to Remoter if this was included.

Hi bsiegel, sorry I missed your post. To answer your question, you can define a virtual resolution when you connect to your Windows machine via RDP. Supported resolutions are: 320x480, 480x320, 640x480, 800x600, 768x1024, 1024x768, and 1280x1024. By the nature of RDP you don't see the physical machine screens, but RDP changes the system resolution of the connection to the specified one.

Hope this helps,
Raf.
