High CPU usage in Mavericks

Has anyone else noticed that Remoter is taking up a lot more CPU in Mavericks (10.9) compared to earlier versions when using VNC over SSH?
I have a MacBook Pro (late 2008, 2.66 Ghz Core2Duo, 8GB RAM) and after upgrading from Mountain Lion to Mavericks I am seeing Remoter constantly taking up 80% CPU. This causes the fans to run constantly to keep the laptop cool.
I only have a single VNC over SSH to a Linux machine session and it is not doing a lot of graphics, mainly just a bunch of terminal windows. If I close the session, then the CPU goes back to a normal level, and as soon as I start the session it jumps back up to 80%. It looks like the problem is the SSH part if the 'VNC over SSH'. If I close the VNC/SSH session, and open 4 RDP and 4 VNC (non-ssh) sessions, then remoter only takes about 30% CPU.
